Accessibility, Parking, & Shuttle Buses

The Royal Montreal Golf Club is situated on the island of Ile Bizard, which is accessible only by a three lane bridge and a cable ferry. Accessibility is difficult and at least one Canadian Open player has missed his tee time because he was stuck in traffic.

During the tournament, only island residents, parking pass holders, players, volunteers, and officials will be permitted on the island with a vehicle. Some, not all, of the weekly pass tickets include on-island parking. Check to see if your weekly pass includes on-island parking.

Other ticket holders will park off the island and be shuttled to the course. Large parking lots will be setup up a few kilometers from the island along boul. de Salaberry (see map below). Continuous shuttle buses will take spectators and volunteers back and forth to the main entrance. The parking fee is $15; the shuttle transportation is free.   There will not be any official shuttle buses traveling from downtown directly to the course, however some hotels may provide this service.

Parking
Presidents Cup Parking at The Royal Montreal Golf Club
Most parking will be located on a hydro electric transmission right-of-way paralleling boul de Salaberry shown on the map above. Boul. de Salaberry is located parallel to and north of highway 40 and it runs both east and west of boul. St. Jean which is the principal route to the Royal Montreal Golf Club from the island of Montreal.

Shuttle buses will continually transport spectators back and forth to the main entrance. Shuttle bus service begins 30 minutes before the course opens and continues until one hour after the course closes. See the course opening hours here.

The Royal Montreal Golf Club is situated to the north west approximately 9 kilometers (6 miles). Downtown Montreal is situated to the South East approximately 25 kilometers (15 miles).

The parking fee is $15 per car, per day; the shuttle transportation is free.

For more information on parking please read this.

Location of shuttles for the President’s Cup.

Is there any indication yet where those shuttle locations might be situated. I have President’s Cups tickets for the whole week but am now booking hotel rooms and would like to possibly know where those might be as far as approximate proximity.

Thank you

I too am booking hotel rooms for the week of the President’s Cup and would like to know where the shuttle locations will be. I was planning to travel to Montreal by train and take a shuttle to the course. As I am travelling with an 75 year old gentleman I would like to be as close as possible to the shuttles. Thank you.

What is considered a premium ticket? You say that premium ticket holders can drive to Ile Bizard but could you please clarify that statement.
Thank you.

Hi Sarah,
I’m going to reword that phrase because it’s not clear who can park on the island.
I suggest you call 1-877-PREZ-CUP (773-9287) to get that information.
Hope that helps!

How far is Chateau Vaudreuil from the golf course?
If one were to take Metro from Downtown Montreal, is there
a station anywhere close by and then take the shuttle?
Thank you.

Gulzar,
The Chateau Vaudreuil is 25 km (15 miles) from the golf course.
There is no Metro station anywhere close to the shuttle stops?

I find it incomprehensible that no shuttle service from the downtown core will be provided. I would have thought that it would have been a prudent measure to have this in place considering our global concern to help the environment. It would also have helped alleviate congestion in and around the golf course and would be of considerable service to the fans. I sincerely hope someone there comes to their senses and sees the benefits of providing shuttle service.

Frank,
Some hotels may provide this shuttle service; I suggest you check with your hotel.

Are taxis able to drop ticket holders at the main entrance? Could you please clarify the $15 shuttle bus fee. Is it each way, each day or per person for the duration of the tournament? Are the shuttles continuous throughout the day? What time is the first tee off time each day and what time does the shuttle service commence?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your comment at http://www.royalmontrealgolfclub.info. Great questions!
I have posted new information about taxis here: http://royalmontrealgolfclub.info/?page_id=96.
I have clarified the shuttle bus info here: http://royalmontrealgolfclub.info/?page_id=51.
The parking fee is $15 per car, per day; the shuttle transportation is free.
Tee off times will be posted here: http://royalmontrealgolfclub.info/?page_id=94 as soon as the PGA announces them.

Hi We have had our tickets booked for the past two years and have a hotel booked ,Quality Inn ,av du parc. We have been waiting to get some news re shuttles online but as of yet ,this it the first I have gotten close to some info. We could not wait to book a hotel any longer as some of the hotels that were mentioned on the Presidents Cup web page have already been booked or are quite expensive.
How do we get to the golf course for the tournament from our hotel. The Hotel has no info either. How much is it per day . We have never been to Montreal and are quite excited about it but do not want to get there and not get in. That is not acceptable when you have bought a weekly pass. Please send some info ASAP. Thanks

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your comment.

Your best bet may be to rent a car. If your ticket doesn’t include parking you can park it and take the shuttle.

Another less flexible option, depending on train schedules, is to take the train and take a taxi to the course from the train station.

A third option is to ask your hotel if they can provide transportation to the course; they may have several guests there for the tournament.

Hi,
Can you tell me how far the train is from Quality Inn Av Du Parc, and can you get weekly passesfor the train. Also what train would you take to get to the shuttle. I hope that the directions will be easy. We have never been to montreal and have had our Presidents Cup tickets for two years ,before the hotel package deals had started. Therefore we had to try to find a hotel ourselves which has not been an easy feat. We have not been sent our tickets yet so I hope that there will be info on travel to the site included. If you have any feedback it would be appreciated.
Sue

No shuttle from downtown? Incredibly short sighted guys. Taxi? 21 miles and 30,000 people trying to get one at the same time? You’ve got to be kidding. First time in Canada for the President’s Cup? Wrong…first and last I expect…

Staging a first-rate international event such as this with a third-rate (or non-existent) transportation plan is a disgrace to paying golf fans (locals, and especially tourists). Any type of shuttle service from the downtown core to the course is essential. Organizers and the RCGA – which could have contracted out this service and generated revenue to further develop golf in Canada – missed the boat to the detriment of ticket-purchasing fans. Please tell me when you are going to correct this egregious oversight. Also, if anyone is planning to organize a shuttle of their own, please post plans here. I need space for two on Fri., 28th.

I’m still not clear regarding the shuttle from the parking on de Salaberry. Can one get a taxi from a hotel to the parking on de Salaberry and then travel on the free shuttle or does one have to pay the parking fee to access the shuttle?

Comment from Ron
Date: September 11, 2007, 1:57 pm

Glenn,
The shuttle is free; you can take a cab to the parking lot and take the shuttle without paying the $15.
Cabs can travel to the course: http://royalmontrealgolfclub.info/?page_id=96.

I have weekly golf passes and am staying in Old Montreal. I’m also trying to figure out transportation plans from downtown. Would prefer not to have the hassle of renting and parking the car for the week. Connected with several major hotels downtown thinking they would definitely have a line on a bus or shuttle but no luck there. I can’t believe this is not covered in the presidents cup plans. Organizers take note, it’s not too late to arrange a bus service from downtown for designated times throughout the day. High demand for sure and it would very much please your paying golf fans. If anyone is organizing anything, please post it, I also need space for two throughout the week.

if you are coming from out of town. I would stay away. period! This is the worst run sporting event I have ever attended. We lef the hilton airport near PET (12 KM) away at 8:45 an on friday and we didn’t enter the grounds until 12:45 pm due to nightmarish traffic, and shuttle service. These people do not know how to put on an event. I understand there is 10,000 more people per day on the weekend. We plan to leave at 4:00 for the 7:17 am tee-times tommorow. Maybe I should ride my bike :(

The parking and the shuttle were fine and punctual but there are next to no signs to get back to the shuttle
once leaving the tournament. Also on another topic, since cell phones are not allowed it would have been
nice to have pay phones in more than just one place.

I almost stayed away based on Steve’s comments. Sure glad I didn’t.
I was there for Sunday, and traffic was non-existent coming from the west, and I think we waited about two mins for the bus.
I thought it was organized great!

Comment from CKT

the organization was quite poor (as pointed out NUMEROUS times earlier) coming from downtown Montreal which is where most visitors (non-Canadian, non-West of Montrealers familiar w/ the area) were going to stay. Great course and decent concession set-up (i’ve seen worse) but just plain rotten planning on getting to the course…. The shuttles on Friday a.m. around 11 (it took over an hour of public transportation to get there) were not there. Luckily found a cab and some shared transportation for Sat a.m.

Friday night exit was horrible as few cabs were at site and that pick up point was far removed from the shuttles. about a 1.5-2 hour schoolbus shuttle ride to W Montreal, Airport and downtown venues. Terrible.

A flat out F on the location-logistics/transportation.

Ron, I feel for you as you have tried to be most helpful, but whoever was in charge should be fired

Comment from CKT

I would add that next time I attend an event like this, I will spend a GREAT DEAL MORE TIME on logistics, have to take part of the blame myself, but as one poster above points out, IT IS UP TO THE SITE to try and provide accessibility and convenience, which is where Montreal, the PGA, the RCGA failed in their respective roles. If you are promoting your city/ your event, you should pay MUCH greater attention to this detail. They had to know from the getGO when they scheduled this on an Island 20 miles out that this would be a problem. It is COMMON SENSE.

the opinion i got from most out of town Canadians I spoke with is that this was typical of Montreal
